POEM: 18 APRIL 2010

how dude got his name

against the sliding glass door
the kitten rests one small paw

bewitching our baby daughter
enchanting her       with cat magic

she crawls over       and reaches up
to place her little hand on the glass
opposite the kitten’s foot

they stare into each other’s eyes
then Ruby squeals

high five!       high five, dude!

Very sweet & heart warming. Love the title! BTW, thanks for your title suggestion for me. It was short, but effective…and so much better than what I had. Also, I commented on your island poem.

Sometimes I think small children are best at communicating with animals– there’s a very honest transference there. You nailed it!

Cat magic and kid magic combined I think.
