RONDEL: 09 APRIL 2010

A Rondel
True surfers crave the untamed ocean -
Their surfboards ride the rolling swell.
They twist and pivot, wave-propelled,
As they defy the laws of motion.
They have no superstitious notions
About the sea, they give it hell!
True surfers crave the untamed ocean -
Their surfboards ride the rolling swell.
They see the next set fast-approaching
To lift them up, where they excel.
With something close to pure devotion,
True surfers crave the untamed ocean -
Their surfboards ride the rolling swell.

Wave upon wave – it really works – it could go on…

“They have no superstitious notions
About the sea, they give it hell!”
Great work on this enjambment. Very nice poem!

Unlike the untamable sea, this is very well-controlled. Salute.

Thanks, Linda. As teenagers, we spent much of our recreational time swimming, body-surfing and surfing. The rhythms of the rondel seemed to come in waves. =)
